Abstract:
Numerous publications have highlighted the importance of increasing success among racial and ethnic minority students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. The authors of this monograph provide a commprehensive analysis and synthesis of more than three hundred published works related to minority students in STEM education. In doing so, they paint a picture of what researchers know about minorities in STEM, how this information can help educators effectively facilitate those students' success, and what important information future research can generate to help educators accomplish that task. It also concludes with a model constructed from the authors' analysis of the literature to facilitate future research, policy, and practice on racial and ethnic minority students in STEM. This monograph serves as an invaluable rsource for K-12 teachers and administrators, college faculty and administrators, researchers, graduate students, and policymakers who are concerned with success among minority students in STEM.
